If you have your Picture This Photography Calendar this is your July 2023 image ”Lady Liberty on top of the world”
The State of Liberty monument is positioned on Liberty Island in New York Harbour & was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States commemorating their alliances during the American Revolution. She is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy & was designated as a National Monument in 1924. Lady Liberty sits proudly on top of her pedestal that is raised on an 11-point star shaped platform called a hendecagram.
Lady Liberty is always an impressive sight to locals & visitors alike. I previously lived on Staten Island for a year so took the ferry to & from work daily during dusk, dawn, sunrise, sunset, daylight & darkness so collect a whole range of daily commuting images in all weathers.
The only place that gives a full-on & direct view of The Statue of Liberty is from a boat on the water; either the Staten Island Ferry, The Circle Line, Statue City Cruises or any private boat will give this amazing view. This image was captured from the Statue Cruise boat on 4th July after visiting Ellis Island & Liberty Island and shows the sheer amount of visitors she receives daily.
Tours are available of Liberty Island & access to the crown or pedestal of The Statue however the best views, in my opinion, are always from the water. She looks amazing any time of day or night however is particularly striking during the golden hour as the sun sets behind her and the sky changes colour.
