If you have your Picture This Photography NYC Calendar this is your December 2024 image “Christmas in The City.”
New York at Christmas is the epitome of the festive season & is truly magical! Once Thanksgiving is over the city becomes full-on Christmas mode. The city comes to life and pulls out all of the stops from trees to lights to decorations and so much more.
Radio City Music Hall is always one of my favourite places to visit both inside and outside due to the grandeur Art Deco design & marquee signage. It is an entertainment venue in Midtown on 6th Avenue and 50th St & is home to The Rockettes. I love visiting for music events or annually for The Christmas Show as the inside hosts a very majestic foyer and a lavish auditorium with incredible acoustics. Radio City is close to Rockefeller Centre so is perfect to get you engulfed in the festive spirit whether visiting or local.
These image were captured on a Sunday morning before the crowds or the city awoke. I wanted to capture the Art Deco signage contrasting with the bold Red/White candy cane decorations.
Right place, right time was never truer when Santa appeared infront of me as I was changing settings so frantically tried to get their attention by waving and luckily Santa waved back at me!
📷 These image were captured hand-held from the pavilion across the street that hosts the Christmas candy canes as it creates interesting foreground & framing and compliments the colour palette.
Location-6th Avenue & 50th St, Midtown Manhattan
Time of Day-Sunday morning, approx 8am
Camera Settings- 25mm, f/11 focus on the front candy cane, Landscape settings, Low ISO of 200 to create true colour palette.
Insider Tip-early Sunday morning is best to avoid having distracting people in your shot. Position yourself as close to the building behind as possible and walk around to get the best possible candy cane framing.
A good reason to go to midtown around Radio City Music Hall areas as there is nothing more magical than “Christmas in The City”
