September 2022 - Tribute in Lights Skyline views
If you have your Picture This Photography NYC calendar this is your September 2022 image "Tribute in Lights Skyline views"
This image was captured on September 11 2021 showing The Tribute in Lights on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. The Lower Manhattan Skyline sits right across The East River from Brooklyn Bridge Park in Dumbo Brooklyn and makes for the perfect photo point.
It was a perfect Saturday so by late afternoon I walked over The Brooklyn Bridge to the park and just sat patiently waiting for dusk. There were tons of photographers out and the night was quite perfect in every way. It had been hot day and was still 75 degrees at 8pm!
The breeze from the East River gave it the perfect amount of movement to release the heat but not disturb anything. If it wasn't for the 2 big huge beams of light the city was focused on it would have been the perfect evening. There wasn't so much sadness as much as acceptance and a somber feeling for what might have been and never will be. Freedom.
📷 This is a long exposure photograph created using a tripod to capture enough light at night and create a smooth result.
Location-Brooklyn Bridge Park, Dumbo
Time of Day-Evening, sunset is approx 8pm and the Lights are switched on around the same time
Camera Settings-Long Exposure Shutterspeed of up to 60 seconds to allow ISO of 100, Medium Aperture for some depth of field & wide angle to capture the whole picture.
The Brooklyn Bridge-is a hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge across The East River between Lower Manhattan & DUMBO, Brooklyn. Opened on May 24, 1883 the Brooklyn Bridge was the first fixed crossing of the East River. it is beautiful & so photogenic whatever the weather and is commutable via walk/bike lanes in addition to driving. No train lines cross The Brooklyn Bridge.
Thousands & thousands of people walk, cycle or traverse across The Brooklyn Bridge daily so it is recommended to go early around sunrise if you want to stroll the bridge leisurely.
Brooklyn Bridge Park is constantly evolving & expanding along the waterfront with so many interesting areas to visit. This section is in DUMBO, Down Under The Manhattan Bridge Overpass between The Brooklyn & Manhattan Bridges. My photography school was in the heart of Dumbo (it is now moved to Bushwick) so I spent a lot of time in this area morning, noon & night, weekdays & weekends in all weathers for 2+ years watching it grow & gentrify while keeping some “glory” areas to retain the neighbourhood feel.
If you are in New York City on September 11th this is a fantastic place to view the "Tribute in Lights Skyline views"
