July 2022 - Lady Liberty & family at home on the 4th of July
If you have your Picture This Photography NYC calendar these are your July 2022 images "Lady Liberty & family at home on the 4th of July"
The State of Liberty monument is positioned on Liberty Island in New York Harbour & was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States commemorating their alliances during the American Revolution It is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy & was designated as a National Monument in 1924.
Liberty Island is positioned next to Ellis Island which housed the immigration & processing station from 1892 to 1954, both are part of the State of Liberty National Monument.
To celebrate the 4th July 2021 The Statue of Liberty’s “little sister” came to visit NYC for 4 days all the way from France en route to her permanent home at The French Ambassadors residence in Washington D.C. She was positioned on Ellis Island on the waters edge so Lady Liberty could watch over her!
Having lived in New York for 14 years I feel like I have seen everything and it takes alot for me to be suitably impressed however the opportunity to visit Lady Liberty's sister on the 4th July was too good an option to pass up.
I took the first Statue City Cruise from Battery Park which headed to The Statue of Liberty then Ellis Island full of tourists! Everyone jumped off at Liberty Island and I stayed on to arrive firstly at Ellis Island where I was the only person on there apart from Lady Liberty sister!
The views were spectacular, the weather was beautiful, the skies were clear and Ellis Island was empty. I took so many photographs & watered around on my own private island until the next tourist ferry arrived, it was an amazing experience.
These 4 images were four of my many favourites captured on 4th July 2021

📷 When photographing landscape with detail in the foreground and distance it is important to use a wide aperture. I decided to focus on the foreground and capture whatever I could for the distance with the best aperture available for the bright daylight.
This was a fabulous start to the day and well worth getting up early for to see "Lady Liberty & family at home on the 4th of July"
The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus
"Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
