January 2021-Walking Into Winter
If you have your Picture This Photography NYC Calendar this is your January 2021 image “Walking into Winter”
Taken early one winter morning while walking across The Brooklyn Bridge I was struck by the silhouette & reflection of The Bridge against the starkness of the surroundings.
The 1.1 mile walk across The Brooklyn Bridge is best viewed leisurely from the wooden promenade above the car lanes walking in either direction. It can feel somewhat rickety at times particularly when wet!
Walking from Manhattan to Brooklyn gives fantastic views of the East River in both directions where the Statue of Liberty can be viewed from the right and The Manhattan Bridge from the left. Walking towards Brooklyn gives amazing views of Dumbo, Brooklyn Bridge Park, The Carousel, Brooklyn Heights & The Welcome sign (formerly WatchTower)
Walking from Dumbo to Manhattan gives amazing views of The Lower Manhattan Skyline, Statue of Liberty, Manhattan Bridge, Empire State Building and South Street Seaport. It is impressive, imposing & incredible every single time.
Both directions give breathtaking up close views the Neo-Gothic stone towers, pointed arches & steel cables. I love the lampposts that are positioned across The Bridge and the iron/wooden benches on the upward approaches.
Having walked across The Brooklyn Bridge morning, noon & night during all 4 seasons it never gets old and I always find a new perspective & capture a new image no matter what.
As we Walk into Winter 2021 I recommend taking a walk across The Brooklyn Bridge to see the sights, clear your mind and gain perspective, it makes everything better!
