February 2021 - City Lights, Business Nights
If you have your Picture This Photography NYC Calendar this is your February image “City Lights, Business Nights.”
This image of the Midtown New York Skyline by night was taken one cold winter evening across The Hudson River from Hoboken. I love the intensity of colour & the reflection.
The most striking & recognisable building is The Empire state Building lit up Blue & White with a candle in the mast in honour of Chanukah.
To its immediate left, set back is the beautiful Art Deco Chrysler building which is one of my favourites! On the waterfront sits Chelsea Piers, a sports village hosting a driving range, indoor ice rinks, gymnastic centre, turf fields & so much more sitting on 3 historic waterfront piers.
Continuing left is The Bank of America Tower at Bryant Park with the blue spire moving to the new development of Hudson Yards.
The Midtown Skyline is every-changing where old vs new and classic vs contemporary buildings compete for visibility with quiet grandeur vs loud swagger, I know which one I prefer.
Currently, as we are still living through the pandemic, the Midtown neighbourhood is unrecognisable with empty streets, deserted office buildings, minimal tourists, closed hotels, boarded up stores and an eerie vibe reminiscent of the crime-ridden 70′s and an old movie playing on repeat.
It seemed very apt to continue show beautiful “City Lights, Business Nights.” light in a time of continued darkness. Here’s to light, strength & hope for 2021 starting soon!
