If you have your Picture This Photography Calendar this is your February 2023 image “I heart NYC”
One of the best views of Manhattan is from across The East River at Hunter Point, Long Island City. If you have been there you will have seen a giant red heart that pays tribute to health care workers, it is also a reminder to the world to “focus on love."
The public art piece is by sculptor Sergio Furnari and was transported by Annalisa Iadicicco the founder of the Blue Bus Project, a non-profit organization "that brings participatory arts events into underserved communities" throughout New York.(-Time Out NY)
I always take the Ferry to Hunters Point no matter what the weather as the views are amazing and the journey from Pier 11 takes you under The Brooklyn, Manhattan & Williamsburg bridges! It feels like being a world away from the hustle & bustle of the busy NYC streets while The City is still right there in the corner of your eye: New Yorkers have a love/hate relationship with NY but secretly miss it when not right there!
On this lazy summer day June 2022 I went purposely to see the heart against the NYC skyline and was not disappointed. Lined up against The United Nations & The Empire State Building it stands tall and proud in its total adoration of NYC. I love the contrast of the red against the green foliage and the light over the skyline, I really do heart you NYC.
